Am I being too nice?

Yes folks, welcome back to TWB. It’s Saturday today, which means that I get to spice up your dull existence. Let me know in the comments if the “dull” part of the intro offends you in any way ( I won't stop using it but i’m curious to find out if any of you actually mind ). Anyways, today I just wanted to ponder over a question I ask myself frequently, and i’m pretty sure some of you do, which is : “Am I being too nice?”

Sometimes I look back at previous conversations, and look at different outcomes of it, if I rephrased my sentence a bit differently. For example, if a person is being disrespectful, i’ll think that I was being too nice in the moment, or if I was a bit harsh I’d think that I should've been a bit nicer. Apparent ESFJ's tend to overthink about things like that.

In the past, I’d say that sometimes I would be a people pleaser. That basically means that I would have an urge to please other people, even if it was at the cost of my time or energy. I actually learnt to sort of notice that bad trait, and fix it over time. Noticing your strengths and weaknesses comes from analysing your actions consciously. I actually developed that through journalling for over a year and a half.

Once you start being too nice and try too hard to over-please people, they start taking advantage of that, which will definitely come at a cost of your self-esteem and your integrity. This could even lead to self-hate in some cases, because you’ll keep wondering why you’re prioritising others over yourself. Talk about self-jeopardy.

Learn to say no sometimes. It won’t kill you. If you’re not available at a certain time, decline. Simple as that. If the people around you can't seem to understand that, then it’s not your fault. If your friends are making you feel terrible about it, then you should take a closer look at your friendship dynamic.

Don’t get it twisted, i’m not telling anyone to be selfish. I’m just advising you guys to not be overly nice, if it’s causing you inconveniences.

Today's post was a bit serious, and it's probably because i’m writing this at night so i’m not as playful as usual 🤷🏾‍♂️
